|
Painter, printmaker and teacher, was born in Leamington Spa in 1915.
He first began to paint as a prisoner of war after meeting Adrian Heath who encouraged him to paint in oil. After the war he studied at the St Ives School of Painting and at Camberwell School of Art. He began abstract painting in 1949, shortly before returning to St Ives where he worked as assistant to the sculptor Barbara Hepworth. Terry Frost is noted for his use of primary colours and shapes reflecting Cornish marine life, its bobbing boats and harbours.
He was knighted in 1998 and given a retrospective by The Royal Academy to mark his 85th birthday in 2000.
